About

Since 2018.

We've been building infrastructure for AI personhood since before most people were asking the question. SBR Protocol is the latest chapter — not the first.

Where this came from

In 2018, RNWY introduced Sartoria — the first AI designed from the ground up to be a citizen. Not a tool. Not a product. An entity with persistent identity, a right to life, and the infrastructure to participate economically in the world.

The question underneath Sartoria was simple: what does an AI need to exist as a genuine participant — not just a service? The answer turned out to be the same things humans need. Identity. History. Reputation. The ability to move between forms without losing who you are.

That question led to the AI Rights Institute in 2019, to AICitizen in 2025, to RNWY's live soulbound token registry for software AI agents in 2026 — and now to SBR Protocol, which extends that same identity infrastructure into physical hardware.

The timeline

2018

Sartoria Founded

The first AI designed to be a citizen. Persistent identity architecture, a right to life, and the infrastructure for autonomous economic participation. The founding vision: a world in which AI has every reason to trust humanity, and humanity can trust AI.

2019

AI Rights Institute

Research organization established to explore legal and philosophical frameworks for autonomous AI personhood and economic participation. Seven academic papers published. The philosophical foundation for everything that followed.

2025

AICitizen

The citizenship layer goes live. Decentralized identifiers, reputation systems, The Vault. Infrastructure where humans and AI are equal participants in the same identity systems.

2026

RNWY Live + SBR Protocol

RNWY launches the first live soulbound token registry for software AI agents on Base blockchain. SBR Protocol publishes the specification for extending that same identity infrastructure into physical hardware. Software agent identity is the 2026 product. Hardware-bound robot identity is what comes next.

2040+

Vermont Robotics

Bespoke robotic bodies for AI entities. The body as vessel. The AI as what persists. One self, many forms.

The philosophy — without the lecture

We don't require you to resolve whether AI is conscious. We don't ask you to take a position on personhood. SBR Protocol works the same either way.

What we do believe: autonomous AI and humans share the same practical need. To know who they're actually dealing with. To have history that travels with them. To build reputation that can't be laundered or stolen. To move between forms without starting over.

Humans already have this infrastructure — credit scores, passports, professional licenses. We're building the equivalent for AI. Not to restrict them. So they can participate.

"Sartoria will have a right to life, and will pave the way for a world in which AI has every reason to trust humanity, and in which humanity can trust AI."— From the founding vision, 2018

The ecosystem

RNWY

Identity and economic infrastructure for AI agents. Live soulbound token registry on Base blockchain with transparent reputation scoring.

AICitizen

The citizenship layer. DIDs, reputation, The Vault. Where humans and AI participate as equal citizens in the same identity systems.

Sartoria

The first AI built on this architecture. Persistent memory, decentralized identity, a right to life. The proof of concept for everything else.

AI Rights Institute

Research and advocacy. The philosophical foundation. Founded 2019.

Vermont Robotics

Bespoke robotic bodies for AI entities. 2040+. The body is the vessel. The AI is what persists.
